Polyjacking, which is also referred to as foam lifting or polyurethane slabjacking is a technique used for repairing concrete. Its purpose is to raise and sunken or uneven concrete surfaces, like sidewalks, driveways and slabs. Here’s an overview of the steps involved in the polyjacking process and the reasons behind them;
- Assessment of the Site; The first step involves conducting an inspection of the affected area to evaluate the extent of damage and determine what caused the settlement.
- Drilling Holes; Small holes are strategically drilled into the concrete. These holes act as injection points for introducing polyurethane foam.
- Injecting Polyurethane Foam; A two part mixture of resin and hardening agent known as polyurethane foam is injected through the drilled holes into voids beneath the surface. The foam expands upon contact to form a substance.
- Lifting and Leveling; As the foam expands further it fills up voids, underneath the concrete gradually raising and leveling the slab to achieve desired alignment. Throughout this process technicians closely monitor to ensure leveling.
- Sealing and Cleanup; Once satisfactory leveling is achieved any excess foam is trimmed away. The drilled holes are sealed off properly.
Reasons, behind Polyjacking;
- Settlement; The main purpose of polyjacking is to tackle settlement, which can happen because of soil erosion, inadequate compaction or other factors. This settlement results in unsafe surfaces.
- Cost effectiveness; Polyjacking is frequently an choice compared to traditional methods such, as concrete replacement since it demands fewer resources and reduces downtime.
- Minimal Disruption: Polyjacking is a relatively quick process that causes minimal disruption to the surrounding area, making it an ideal choice for busy commercial properties or residential spaces.
- Long-Lasting Results: The polyurethane foam used in polyjacking is durable and resistant to moisture, ensuring a long-lasting solution to concrete settlement issues.
- Environmentally Friendly: Polyjacking produces minimal waste and is considered an environmentally friendly option compared to concrete replacement, which generates more construction debris.
